GARLAND, Texas (WFAA/CNN Newsource/WKRC) – Police arrested two men in connection with a multi-state Lego theft ring that stole an estimated $400,000.
Brian Fleming and Ladarion Anderson have been arrested for allegedly stealing Lego sets from major stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Florida, but mainly in the Dallas Fort Worth area.
Authorities say the thefts were not as simple as shoplifting. Instead, the men would supposedly buy a cheap set, around $1 or $2, and take the receipt home. They then allegedly changed the receipt to reflect a much more expensive Lego set, then sent an accomplice to the store to steal the expensive sets.
If the employees asked for the accomplice’s receipt, they would provide the amended receipt showing the expensive set.
This is evident from court documents obtained by WFAAFleming and Anderson’s group included up to ten people who stole more than $400,000 over a two-year period.
The thieves were not over-enthusiastic builders; they sold the sets to a dealer who sold them on websites like Amazon and eBay.
Target and Walmart began to understand the group’s escapades, but the brick house collapsed when an officer pulled over a vehicle full of stolen Lego, which they traced back to Fleming and Anderson.
